Allium Lamp — 3D Printed Sculptural Table Lamp with Layered Glow

Two shells, printed to different specifications. The inner layer takes an onion-like rounded form with a matte finish; the outer shell is tuned to be subtly translucent. Light passing through both doesn't simply diffuse — it registers the inner structure as a soft silhouette within the outer surface, visible from some angles and hidden from others.

The effect depends on where you're standing. Walk past it and the inner form appears and recedes, the glow shifting in density as the two layers align and separate in your sightline. That's a deliberate outcome of how the print settings were calibrated rather than a byproduct of the shape, and it's what distinguishes this from a single-wall printed shade that glows evenly from every direction.

• Dust with a soft dry cloth or a low-pressure air duster for the layered surfaces

HOW TO STYLE IT

The angle-dependent glow means placement should account for movement past the lamp, not just the view from a seated position. On a console in a hallway or an entryway, the shifting effect registers every time someone walks by. On a side table beside a sofa it's more static, though still effective from across a room.

Give it a clear surface. The layered form is detailed enough that surrounding objects compete with it, so a bare console, a floating shelf with generous spacing, or a bedside table with nothing else on it all work better than a crowded vignette. Against a plain wall the translucent glow reads most clearly; against a patterned or dark wall the effect is muted.
