The same generatively designed shade in metal. The pattern is computed by custom-written code rather than modeled by hand, producing a woven structure whose density varies continuously across the surface instead of repeating — and in brass or nickel that structure reads as metalwork rather than as a printed form.

The optical behavior is what the design is built around. From one position the shade appears solid; move a few feet and it opens into translucency, the bulb inside fading in and out of view as your sightline shifts through the weave. It changes as you cross a room.

BRASS OR NICKEL

The two finishes age differently, and that difference should decide your choice.

Unlacquered brass has no protective coating. It will darken and develop a patina over months of exposure to air and handling — warmer and less uniform over time, with fingerprints and contact points aging faster than untouched areas. This is how unlacquered brass is meant to behave. If you want the lamp to look in five years the way it looks on arrival, this is the wrong finish.

Nickel holds its appearance. Cooler in tone and consistent over time, with no patina development, it's the option for anyone who wants the finish stable or who's matching existing hardware that isn't aging.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

• Dust with a soft dry cloth or low-pressure air duster, working through the open weave
• Unlacquered brass: do not polish unless you want to reset the patina; polishing removes the aging and it will begin again
• Nickel: wipe with a soft dry cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners which will dull the finish
• Do not use chemical cleaners or solvents on either finish
• Unplug and let the bulb cool before cleaning
• Handle by the base rather than the shade when repositioning

HOW TO STYLE IT

This isn't a lamp for a corner. The angle-dependent effect only works if people move around it, so a console in a room you cross, a desk approached from more than one side, or a side table with clearance around it all suit it better than a fixed position against a wall.

Give it a plain background and clear surface. The woven pattern is intricate enough that surrounding objects compete with it.

Match the finish to the room's hardware rather than to the furniture. Brass pulls toward warm metals, wood tones, and aged surfaces — and if the rest of your brass is also unlacquered and aging, they'll move together. Nickel sits with chrome, stainless, and cooler palettes, and stays where it starts.
