Coral Lamp — 3D Printed Textured Table Lamp with Organic Surface
The surface is the whole object. Fine ridged whorls run across the entire form, dense and non-repeating, closer to a fingerprint than to any pattern that could be tiled or drawn by hand. Coral formations are the other reference, and both share the same quality: organic structure that looks designed without being symmetrical.
Getting there took a hybrid process. An AI model generated a library of organic patterns, those were refined and modified by hand, and the results were rebuilt onto the lamp's form in modeling software. It's the kind of texture that would be impractical to design manually and meaningless if left entirely to the machine.
The silhouette is biomorphic rather than geometric — curved, irregular, without a flat plane on it. Lit, the ridged surface catches light along every raised line and drops it into every recess, so the whole form reads as texture rather than as an illuminated shape. Unlit, it holds a surface as a sculptural object.
Printed to order, with minor variation in color and texture between pieces.

KEY FEATURES
- Non-repeating whorled surface texture across the entire form
- Texture developed through a hybrid process of AI pattern generation and hand refinement
- Biomorphic silhouette with no flat planes
- Reads as texture rather than as a lit shape when illuminated
- Sculptural presence when unlit
- Natural variation in color and texture between pieces
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
- Dust with a low-pressure air duster rather than a cloth — deep texture traps dust and fabric can snag on the ridges
- Do not use water, solvents, or chemical cleaners on the printed surface
- Avoid abrasive cloths, which can flatten the raised whorl detail
- Keep away from heat sources and prolonged direct sunlight
- Unplug and let the bulb cool fully before cleaning
- Handle by the base when repositioning
HOW TO STYLE IT
Texture this dense needs close viewing to register. Put it where people sit near it — a bedside, a desk, a side table beside a chair — rather than across a room where the whorls flatten into a general roughness.
Give it a plain surface with nothing competing. The pattern is busy enough that surrounding objects turn the whole vignette into noise; a bare console or a shelf with generous spacing lets it be seen.
Pair it with smooth, solid materials — ceramic, stone, glass, finished wood. Avoid rattan, boucle, or anything else textured in the same sightline.
Position it a few inches clear of a wall. The raised ridges throw fine shadow, and a nearby surface gives that somewhere to land.
