Pleated paper shades give the warmest, most evenly diffused light of any shade material, and they tear if you look at them wrong. This one takes the form and drops the problem — an accordion pattern printed in recycled PLA, structurally rigid where paper is fragile, with the same close-set fold pattern doing the same work on the light.

The profile is a mushroom: a wide, gently domed cap over a narrower stem, with the pleating running the full radius of the cap. Organic in silhouette, crisp in detail. The folds are close enough together that the shade reads as texture from across a room rather than as individual creases, which is what produces the softness — light exits through dozens of narrow facets instead of one broad surface.

Recycled PLA also means it handles what paper can't. Dusting, repositioning, a knock off a shelf, years of use without yellowing or creasing at the folds.

• Dust with a soft dry cloth or low-pressure air duster, working along the pleats
• Do not use water, solvents, or chemical cleaners on the printed surface
• Avoid abrasive cloths, which can flatten the pleat edges
• Keep away from heat sources and prolonged direct sunlight — PLA can soften or warp at high temperatures
• Unplug and let the bulb cool fully before cleaning
• Use LED bulbs rather than incandescent to limit heat against the shade
• Handle by the base rather than the cap when repositioning

HOW TO STYLE IT

The mushroom profile directs most of the light downward, so this works as a surface light rather than a room light. On a bedside table it pools onto the surface below; on a console it lights whatever sits beneath it; on a desk it covers a working area without throwing glare upward.

Pleated shades sit comfortably in interiors that would reject something more angular. Against linen, warm wood, dried botanicals, and soft furnishings the texture reads as continuous with the room rather than contrasting against it. That makes it one of the easier sculptural lamps to place.

Give it a few inches of clearance from a wall so the light falling from the cap edge has somewhere to land, and keep other pleated or fluted objects out of the same sightline — including the Wavy lamps if you have them nearby.
