Arcas Lamp — 3D Printed Woven Table Lamp in Recycled PLA
The shade is generated from custom-written code rather than modeled by hand, which is why it does something a drawn form can't: it reads as woven fabric while being a single rigid printed structure. The pattern isn't repeated or tiled — it's computed across the whole surface, so the density shifts continuously rather than resolving into a grid.
That produces the effect the lamp is built around. From one angle the shade appears nearly solid; step a few feet to the side and it opens into translucency, the light passing through where it was blocked a moment before. The glow changes as you move around it rather than staying fixed.
Printed to order from recycled PLA, with small variations in texture and color inherent to the process. The 2700K bulb is included, and any LED bulb will work if you want to swap it.

ASSEMBLY AND STABILITY
This is a two-piece construction and it's at its sturdiest when fully and correctly assembled. Follow the assembly guide closely — it takes a few extra minutes and makes a real difference in how stable the lamp feels day to day. Place it where it isn't likely to be knocked.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
- Dust with a soft dry cloth or low-pressure air duster, working through the open weave
- Do not use water, solvents, or chemical cleaners on the printed surface
- Avoid abrasive cloths, which can scuff the PLA finish
- Keep away from heat sources and prolonged direct sunlight — PLA can soften or warp at high temperatures
- Unplug and let the bulb cool before cleaning
- Handle by the base rather than the shade when repositioning
- Minor variation in texture and color is expected from the printing process, not a defect
HOW TO STYLE IT
The angle-dependent effect is the reason to own this, so placement should account for movement. A console in a hallway or an entryway gives you the shift every time someone walks past. On a desk or a side table the view is more static, though still effective from across a room.
At 15 inches wide it needs real surface area — this isn't a lamp for a crowded nightstand. Give it a clear console, a wide side table, or a desk with room around it, positioned where it can be seen from more than one side. A few inches of clearance from the wall lets the open weave cast pattern behind it as well as forward.
Pair it with smooth, solid materials — ceramic, stone, finished wood — so the woven texture has something to contrast against. Avoid grouping it with other textured or perforated objects in the same sightline.
