Glass brick does something specific to light. Rather than transmitting it cleanly the way a window does, it breaks the beam into separate bright patches with soft edges — you get illumination without a view through, and the light arrives in pieces rather than as a sheet.
The faceted shade works on the same principle. Angled planes across the surface refract light in different directions rather than diffusing it evenly, so the shade shows distinct bright and dim facets rather than a uniform glow, and the light it throws lands in patches rather than a single pool.
The geometry also references greenhouse construction — the segmented glazing of a Victorian conservatory, where structure and glass alternate across a curved surface. That's what gives the form its faceted, gem-cut quality rather than a smooth curve.
Unlit it holds a surface as a geometric object. Lit, the facets separate and the whole piece reads as refraction.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS
- Dust with a soft dry cloth or low-pressure air duster, working into the facet joints
- Do not use water, solvents, or chemical cleaners on the printed surface
- Avoid abrasive cloths, which can scuff the facet edges
- Keep away from heat sources and prolonged direct sunlight
- Unplug and let the bulb cool fully before cleaning
- Handle by the base rather than the shade when repositioning
HOW TO STYLE IT
The refraction lands on nearby surfaces, so this lamp benefits from something close by to catch it. On a console against a wall, the patched light falls onto the wall behind. On a shelf, it lands on the shelf above. In the middle of an open room, most of that effect is lost.
Facets read best under a single light source rather than in a brightly lit room — the contrast between the lit and unlit planes flattens under ambient light and sharpens in the evening.
Pair with smooth, solid materials so the geometry has contrast: plain ceramic, stone, flat painted walls. Keep other faceted or angular pieces out of the sightline, including the Brut Lamp if you have one nearby.
