Rattan Pendant Light — Handwoven Wabi-Sabi Kitchen Island Pendant
Woven rattan does something to light that a solid shade can't. The gaps between the strands let the source through in patterned fragments rather than a contained beam, so the fixture casts texture across a ceiling and the surfaces below it, not just illumination.
Each shade is handwoven, which means the weave tension and the spacing vary slightly from piece to piece. That irregularity is the wabi-sabi principle the design draws on — imperfection as evidence of the hand rather than a manufacturing failure. If you hang two side by side over an island, they won't be identical, and that's the intent.
Rattan is a natural fiber, so it reads warm against the hard surfaces that dominate most kitchens — stone countertops, tile backsplashes, stainless appliances. In a dining room or a loft it does similar work, softening a space where the other materials are doing something harder.

HOW TO STYLE IT
Over a kitchen island, hang the bottom of the shade roughly 30 to 36 inches above the counter surface. Higher and the light spreads too thin to be useful for prep work; lower and it obstructs the sightline across the island. For a standard island, two or three pendants spaced evenly along the length reads better than a single fixture centered.
Over a dining table, the same clearance applies from the tabletop. A single pendant works for a round table; a run of two or three suits a rectangular one.
Rattan pairs naturally with warm wood, linen, stone, and unglazed ceramic. It also works as the single soft element in a harder-edged kitchen — against concrete, black metal, or high-gloss cabinetry the contrast is the point. Avoid pairing it with other woven textures in the same sightline, which flattens the effect.
